Partnerships between musicians and shoe brands are not particularly uncommon. Nike work with Drake, Adidas with Ye, and Reebok with Kendrick. Undeniably, one of the most popular musician-trainer collaborations is that between Tyler, The Creator’s label Golf Wang and Converse, which officially began back in 2017.
Since then, the pair have collaborated on a series of trainers (all of which have been highly sought after) including:
- The pink and white low-top 70s
- The flame-decorated, high-top All-Star 70s
- The Gianno’s — a brand new, chunky silhouette influenced by Tyler, The Creator’s skating background.
The two labels have revealed that they will be continuing their partnership for the coming spring/summer 2022 season with a new pair of Chuck 70 high-tops set to drop on April 28.
The drop will differ quite drastically from their previous releases — or that of any other collaborations we’ve seen before between a musician and a trainer label. How? Because, for the first time, customers will be provided with the unique opportunity of customising their own trainers via the Converse “By You” experience to create a pair of shoes that are not just limited-edition, but also truly individual.
Specifically, shoppers will be able to edit the shoes’ upper, sole, graphics, and colours, allowing for a total of 100,000 unique styles to be created by each individual customer.
There are 6 colourways to choose from including black, cream, red, yellow, green and light blue.
And as part of the experience, a range of iconic logos, motifs and patterns from the Golf Wang archives (which date back 11 years) are being brought back to life, which customers can use to decorate their shoes as they see fit.
Pricing starts at $115 (~ £90) per pair and the shoes will be exclusively available on the Converse website for 24 hours only — so when it’s gone, it’s gone!
The 24 hours is set to begin on April 28 at 8 a.m. GMT (for UK buyers), 10 a.m. ET (for US buyers) and 10 a.m. CEST (for Western European buyers).
