2022 is full of exciting music events to look forward to. From festivals being back, to prestigious award shows, we’ve got you covered. There are a few stand-out events to keep your eye out for. We’ve put together this major music events calendar so that you don’t miss a thing.
Adele Las Vegas Residency – 21st January – 16th April
Late last year, the pop-ballad legend, Adele, announced that she will be the next star to take over the Caesars Palace residency in Las Vegas. The performances will run all the way through from January 21st – April 16th and will take place on Friday and Saturday every weekend.
The residency comes shortly after the release of her highly anticipated new studio album ‘30’, which explores the heartache of her recent divorce. It reached No.1 on the album charts across 30 different countries and was the top-selling album of 2021, within three days, despite it being released at the end of November.
Tickets for the residency sold out in minutes with ticket prices sitting between $85 and $685 dollars with some resale sites currently selling tickets for $1000-$3000 dollars. The star has reportedly produced $2 million worth of ticket sales per show, meaning the residency will make a grand total of $48 million over the 24 shows. Adele will reportedly be taking a cut of around $16 million across the three-month stretch, as well as residing in the $40,000 dollar-per-night suite. Not too bad.
The Grammys – 3rd April
The prestigious Grammy’s award show, presented by the Recording Academy, nominates and rewards musicians for “Oustanding Achievement in the Music Industry” in the USA. Award winners receive the iconic gramophone trophy, which is seen as a huge honour, with The Grammy’s being labelled “the biggest night in music”. The ceremony was set to take place in January of this year but was indefinitely delayed due to the new Omicron variant. The new date has now been announced for the 3rd of April.
This year’s nominees include Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, Silk Sonic, Olivia Rodrigo, Kanye West, H.E.R and Justin Bieber, along with many more. See the full nomination list here.
Like anything, this major awards night doesn’t come without its controversy. In December, Drake withdrew his two nominations for ‘Best Rap Album’ and ‘Best Rap Performance’ after saying that he feels he has been put “in that category, cos it’s the only place you can figure out where to put me” and is a result of racial profiling.
There was huge debate involving The Weeknd over whether The Grammy’s is ‘corrupt’ when his After Hours album bagged him 0 nominations in last year’s ceremony, leading to the artist now boycotting the ceremony altogether.
However, if you do want to watch the show, it will air at 5 pm Pacific time and 8 pm Eastern Time on the 3rd of April, which is 4 am on the 4th of April in the UK. It will be broadcasted on CBS and Paramount+. There are currently no plans to air the event in the UK, however, it is likely that streaming platforms such as YouTube will see streams nearer the time.
Coachella 15th April – 24th April
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is the most popular (and most Instagrammed) music festival in the world. Over the years it has become the pinnacle of influencers and fancy festival outfits, but it also puts on some pretty amazing acts too.
The past two years of the pandemic saw both festivals cancelled, two years on the trot, setting this year up as one to remember. It takes place across two weekends and houses around 250,000 people across the six-day total.
The Californian festival has announced its 2022 line-up which will see Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) as the headliners. The stars will also be joined by Lil Baby, Daniel Caeser, Phoebe Bridgers, Doja Cat, Disclosure and Swedish House Mafia along with a whole host more.
Coachella is completely sold-out, meaning if you want to go, you’ll have to try again next year. Not to worry though – the Coachella Youtube channel uploads fantastic clips of full performances, meaning we get to see all the best bits from the sofa!
As always, The BRIT’s ceremony will be broadcasted on ITV, meaning we all get the chance to watch it. It will also be uploaded to ITV Hub, so you can watch it at any time if you miss it. The performances are currently top-secret and yet to be announced, but we anticipate that some huge stars will take the stage at the arena.
Glastonbury – 22nd June – 25th June
Glastonbury, dubbed ‘the festival of all festivals’, is the “largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world”. The site is huge, expanding across land that is around eight and a half miles in perimeter. The fields are about a mile and a half across, taking around an hour to walk from one side to the other.
The festival takes place across five days, which for this year will be 22nd-25th June. Like many festivals, the past two years were unfortunately wiped out by Covid, but this year, the iconic Glasto is back in all its glory.
Whilst the full line-up hasn’t been released yet, it has been confirmed that Billie Eilish will be headlining on the Friday night, making her the youngest artist ever to play ‘The Summit Stage’ as well as the youngest to perform at both Coachella and Glastonbury in the same year. Diana Ross and Paloma Faith have also been announced on the line-up. Many are expecting the artists that were set to play the cancelled 2020 festival, to be on this year’s list, including Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar. Who knows? We’ll have to wait and see.
This year’s event is, of course, sold out. All the ticketholders from 2020, were automatically transferred to 2021, and then 2022 after it was repeatedly cancelled, making it even harder than ever to get tickets.
However, the festival is streamed every year on the BBC with a super-efficient system in which you can pick which sets you’d like to watch and see them live. Details of exactly where to stream the performances will be announced closer to the time.
Wireless Festival – 1st – 8th July
Wireless festival, the ‘UK’s number one urban music festival’ is set to take place later on this year, with the date still to be announced. The 50,000-capacity festival takes place at Crystal Palace Park, Finsbury Park and Outdoor at NEC, Birmingham, it will showcase some of the best artists from hip-hop, grime, rap and many more.
The line-up has everyone talking with the likes of Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, Dave, Burna Boy (just to name a few) all headlining.
