The Billboard Music Awards 2022 took place last night (May 15) — hosted by P Diddy. Most of the awards were handed out during a TikTok Livestream, while the rest of the winners were revealed at a ceremony held at The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The ceremony honoured the year’s top artists (determined by performance on the Billboard chart period of 10 April 2021 — 26 March 2022) on the Billboard charts across 62 categories.
Going into the night, The Weeknd held the most nominations with 17. Doja Cat followed with 14, while Kanye West, Olivia Rodrigo and Justin Bieber all received 13 nods each.
In the end, it was Rodrigo that took home the most awards on the night with 7, while West closely followed close with 6. Drake won 5 (extending his record as the most decorated winner in the history of the awards show with 34 wins) and Doja picked up 4.
The show featured performances by a variety of artists (16 total) including Diddy, Megan Thee Stallion, Silk Sonic, Burna Boy, Mary J. Blige and Travis Scott — marking the rapper’s first major public appearance since the tragic Astroworld Festival crowd crush last year.
Janet Jackson made a surprise appearance to present Mary J. Blige with the Icon Award. Blige is the 11th recipient of the award and joins a growing list of legends that have also received the honour including Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Cher, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez and Celine Dion.
