Fashion Meets Music speaks to Koded Signature, a hot new fashion brand showcasing Africa in a unique and positive way.
Fashion Meets Music: Tell us about your brand, the concept and the team behind it.
Koded Signature is a brand that originated from Lagos, Nigeria before I moved to Toronto, Canada.
We currently have two major products inspired from Nigeria, Africa. The Queen Idia Snapback (hats) and the renowned Afrobeat Legend FELA Tshirt.
Our major concept is to change the status quo – taking the Queen Idia Snapback for example, it was created out of the need for Africans and enthusiasts to embrace and patronize their own brand (African Brands) and promote the African art.
FMM: How would you describe your style of design?
As a graphics designer myself – I tend to come up with the designs, with our two major products been inspired by Africa
FMM: How has music inspired your designs or design process?
Music is really powerful and has greatly been a part of our design process, listening to Fela inspired the Fela Tshirt and from the sketching process to the shooting – Music has always played a major role.
FMM: Other than music, where do you get your inspiration from?
My environment – Africa, inspires me and the change of environment has greatly been a source of inspiration – seeing and learning new things.
FMM: Your Line obviously shows a love for Africa, can you tell us more about that?
As I mentioned earlier, I spent more than the first 20 years of my life in Nigeria. I have always loved to make designs and items people could easily relate with and the drawn to – being that I myself most times gets drawn to African inspired items.
FMM: What’s one thing about you that people might not know?
Hmmm… I come from Rivers State – Nigeria.
FMM: If you could design a custom piece for any musician, who would you create it for and what would it be?
